Description

Visit of a Chistera’s workshop

The basque pelota is one of the most popular, oldest and traditional sports in the Basque Country and people of all ages and capabilities can play. There are many different types of basque pelota which include the use of different rackets and different balls but the main discipline remains the “cesta punta”, which is played with the “chistera” which is a type of large wicker glove.

Patxi and Jon are two great players of cesta punta. After a professional career in the United States and a title of world champion, they decided to return to the Basque country and create their own artisan workshop of chistera in Bidart.

The manufacturing of chistera is handed down from generation to generation according to ancestral know-how as the work of the wood and wicker requires total control and very precise gestures.

Come and meet Patxi and Jon and experiance their passion of Basque pelota in their artisan workshop of Bidart. They will share with you their knowledge of the game and the craftsmanship of the chisteria in an authentic atmosphere.

If you would like to try the “cesta punta” after your visit, you can book a lesson here
